PhD positions on offer in Chromatin Biology and Gene Regulation
The Villaseñor Lab at the Biomedical Center LMU Munich offers fully funded PhD psosition(s).
14.02.2022 – 31.03.2022
Fully funded PhD position(s) in Chromatin Biology and Gene Regulation
The opportunity:
You will be part of the Villaseñor Lab at the Biomedical Center LMU Munich, who will apply
robust and quantitative methods to explore larger combinatorial possibilities and elucidate the
combinatorial chromatin landscape in stem cells and other cell types (for more details, visit
www.villasenorlab.org). By integrating experimental and computational approaches, we will
tackle three fundamental questions in a quantitative and comprehensive manner: 1) How is
bivalent chromatin maintained in pluripotent cells? 2) Are more combinatorial possibilities
existing on the same nucleosome with relevant biological functions? 3) If so, do they occur in
all cell types, or are there lineage- or even disease-specific combinations?
What we offer:
- Using mouse embryonic stem cells as a model system, you will learn to combineproteomics, genomics, and gene editing technologies to answer biological questions.
- You will have access to modern mass spectrometers (TimsTOF), bioinformatics support,state-of-the-art facilities, and generous office space in a new building.
- You will learn experimental design, data analysis and interpretation.
- You will collaborate with team members and be involved in international, multi-disciplinarycollaborations.
- You will be part of a culturally diverse, inclusive, and work-life-balanced research team in a leading scientific environment that shares these values.
- Funding to attend international meetings or workshops in Europe.
Who you are:
- You completed or will soon complete a Master in biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are your strengths. Proficiency in English is essential.
- You enjoy cooperating with project members from diverse scientific and cultural backgrounds and are willing to develop continuously.
- Your experience in molecular biology or biochemistry and creative thinking are of high value to us.
This position will be filled as soon as possible (we can negotiate the starting date) and is
limited to 4 years. As a doctoral researcher, you will be a member of the Integrated Research
Training Program (IRTG 1064), a structured graduate program committed to supporting
doctoral candidates in their research goals, in good scientific practice, and achieving optimal
qualifications for future careers. Salaries conform to TV-L E13 (65%).
Are you curious to learn more about the position? Then I look forward to receiving your full
application, including a motivation letter, CV, certificates, and contact details from three
referees (one referee should be a direct supervisor, working with you for at least 6 months).
The application deadline is the 31st of March 2022. Interviews with pre-selected candidates
will take place in the beginning of May 2022. Please send your full application as a single PDF
